5 Takeaways From A Recent Churchgoer Giving Study

Written by Mogiv Team, Filed under Church Life, Online Giving, Uncategorized.

We don’t generally make it a habit to feature content produced by our competitors here on The Mogiv Minute. But, every now and then, one of them will produce something so vital and so valuable that we feel compelled to set aside our professional rivalries and share it with you.

Such is the case with Vanco’s recently completed “Churchgoer Giving Study.” This survey of over 1,000 U.S. churchgoers reveals some tough to ignore findings about when, where, and how churchgoers in America would like to give.

Don’t want to sign up for another email list? We get it. Below are 5 key takeaways from the study.

  • 60% of American Churchgoers prefer electronic giving.

Think online giving is only a “young man’s game?” Think again! 60% of all churchgoers say that they would rather be giving online. Yes, the preference for digital giving spikes to 79% with givers 24 – 34, but it also hovers near 50% for givers over the age 45. Long story short: no matter the median age of your congregation, you’ve got some online givers out there! (more…)

3 Things You Can Do To Increase Giving This December

Written by Mogiv Team, Filed under Mobile Giving, Online Giving, Uncategorized.

Next to the retail employees at your local mall, you’ll be hard-pressed to find anyone working harder in the months ahead than pastors and church leaders.

There are Christmas concerts and nativity pageants to be coordinated, extra services and outreach opportunities to be planned, not to mention all of the traveling, shopping, and family get-togethers that pack an already crowded schedule!

With so much going on, it’s understandable that certain things like generosity end up getting “back burner-ed” for a few weeks. But it shouldn’t!

As I’m sure you know, the holidays are the single most important season for your churches’ finances! (Fun Fact: Nearly 18.00% of all charitable giving and over 22% of online giving takes place in the month of December alone!) It’s no exaggeration to say that many churches’ budgets will be saved or sunk in the weeks ahead. In fact, over 40% of churches report that they receive fully HALF of their annual budget in the month of December alone.

Whatever the case may be at your church, generosity is too important a topic to ignore until January. But that doesn’t mean it needs to occupy a ton of time either! Below are three easy things you can do in the weeks ahead to ensure that your church ends 2015 on a high note. (more…)

30 Minutes Of Generosity Goodness!

What happens when 4 dudes get together in a hotel room to talk about generosity? THIS!!

Earlier this month, Kent Woodyard, Mogiv’s Director of Business Development, fled the Midwest to attend Exponential West, a conference for pastors and church planters in Irvine, CA. While there, Kent took a break from the sessions and the sunshine to meet-up with some friends to talk about generosity. The cameras caught everything on tape, and we want to share that tape with you!

“Generosity” is a pretty broad topic so it’s no surprise that it ended up being a broad conversation covering everything from church cultural concerns to examples of pastors modeling sacrificial generosity to stories of how generosity can serve as a gateway for The Gospel.  (more…)

Don’t Just Ask People To Give…Ask Them To GivUp!!

Sometimes, when I talk about the feature of Mogiv that I want to tell you about today, it’s hard for me to not lapse into my cheesy “infomercial” voice.

“Are you tired of stagnant giving and unengaged givers? Have you tried everything you can think of to increase giving to your church with NO LUCK?? Well thank your lucky stars, because your ship has come in! Don’t stress about giving…GivUp!!

Give up? No, no, no…not “give up” as in “quit.” I’m talking about “GivUp” as in the unique tool offered by Mogiv that lets you encourage your congregation toward sacrificial giving in a way that is both interactive and fun. Here’s how it works: (more…)

Stop Sending Your Givers “Across The Street!”

Written by Mogiv Team, Filed under Online Giving, Uncategorized.

Here’s a scenario for you to consider. Imagine you’re shopping at your favorite store. Since it’s your favorite, you’ve obviously been here more than once. This is a store that you know like the back of your hand. The layout, color-scheme, and branding are all extremely familiar, maybe even comforting.

You collect the items you need and head toward the front of the store, but when you arrive, instead of a checkout counter or a smiling face, you are greeted by a sign that directs you across the street to a strange and foreign kiosk where you’re asked to hand over your credit card and pay for your items.

Sounds ridiculous, right? Obviously, no business would ever put you through this. Not only is it inconvenient and disconcerting for you as a customer; the store misses out on the opportunity to add a personal touch to your shopping experience.

Why, then, is this the process that so many churches and nonprofits have settled on with their online giving? (more…)
